Phillip Dean is no stranger to Spartanburg District Five, as he served as the Principal of Reidville Elementary School for the last five years. He first joined the district in 2018.
After getting his start in the classroom as an elementary school teacher, Dean later served as an Assistant Principal and Principal at both the elementary and middle school level. He earned his Bachelors in Education from Presbyterian College, a Masters in Teaching from Winthrop University, and a Masters in Educational Administration from the University of South Carolina.
Dean says, “I loved my time at Reidville Elementary School, but the same time, I am excited for a new challenge. Opening up a new middle school and putting together a team of teachers and staff is a great opportunity, and I’m thrilled to be a part of establishing new traditions at Abner Creek Middle School."
With Abner Creek scheduled to open in August of 2024, Dean says he's most looking forward to welcoming the school's very first group of students."I'm excited to be part of creating an environment where they feel safe, challenged, and have the support they need to reach their academic and life goals."
In his spare time, Mr. Dean is an accomplished singer, who enjoys wordworking, and spending time with his family, especially his wife and three grandchildren.
