It may be summertime, but students who are enrolled in Honors English 1 have some summer reading to do! Because Honors English 1 is a high school credit course, the information below comes from Byrnes Freshman Academy, but the assignment is the same for all District Five middle school students taking this course.

2024 English Summer Reading Assignments

Summer reading for Honors English students at James F. Byrnes Freshman Academy (or middle school for those taking this course in 8th grade) is required. English 1 Honors students are expected to read one of the books listed below. English 2 Honors students are expected to read the two books listed below.

Rising Honors English 1 Students

All English 1 Honors students must read the book of his/her choice by the first day of school and take a written test during the first two weeks of the course, which could either be August for first-semester English students, or January for second-semester English students. In addition to a written test, students must also be prepared for in-depth group discussion and analysis that leads to a culminating performance task.
