Spartanburg District Five officially broke ground on Abner Creek Middle School on November 29, 2021. As the district's 4th middle school, Abner Creek was the first school to be built as part of the district's growth plan, funded by the passage of a major bond referendum in 2021.

Built to house students in 6th-8th grade, the school is designed to include both interior and exterior learning spaces, which are ideal for student and teacher collaboration, while still being safe and adaptable.

Construction of the campus officially finished late in 2023, and Abner Creek Middle will officially open its doors to welcome students and staff for its inaugural year in August 2024.
