What is AVID?

AVID stands for Advancement Via Individual Determination. The goal of AVID is to prepare students for their future by encouraging them to think about not only what they want to do but what it will take to get there. At Florence Chapel, all students encounter AVID through the use of WICOR skills (Writing to Learn, Inquiry, Collaboration, Organization, and Reading to Learn). Other students apply for and enter the AVID elective course where they work on building their academic and social skills while also working to build self-confidence that will help them succeed as they move through their educational path.
