Tips for getting connected
On Friday, Mr. Smith’s students dissected the brain of a sheep to find its similarities with the human brain. A very heady activity that had everyone’s brain fully engaged. 🧠🧠🧠
Ms. Pearson’s classes created an ice penguin home to test in convection, conduction, and radiation heat. Love to see applied learning! #CougarsLEAD #WeAreD5
Mr. McDonald’s classes did a gallery walk looking at the connections between the South Carolina colony and Barbados! They analyzed the political, social, and economical similarities between the two during the colonial period.
FCMS kicked off its Adopt-a-Cougar Mentoring program. We had mentors from our community and our staff meet with the students to have lunch. They were all so fortunate to also be able to hear from Timothy Smith and be both challenged and inspired!
Yesterday each FCMS House competed to dress a staff member in football gear before they raced for the finish line. Quite a spectacle!

Fall Sports Pep Rally
Mr. Austin performed his own monologue for Ms. Warren's 8th Grade Imagination students! The students were able to give helpful feedback and Mr. Austin was able to deepen his theatrical knowledge.
Avid students and some 8th graders at FCMS were treated to a literacy pep rally from author Kwame Alexander! They also met with Mo’ne Davis who, at 13, pitched a no hitter in the Little League World Series. She played softball at Hampton College. The main character in Alexander’s new book, Black Star, is loosely based off of Mo’ne.

Mr. Ebaugh’s science students are discovering the scientific elements as they study chemical reactions. They are playing a game called “Element O” to support what they learn!

Next week
Mrs. Uppole's science class competed in team challenges. In order to win the games, teams had to work together to use the periodic table to identify atomic structures. Live the collaboration!

Today Mrs. Backstrom’s students jumped into the Shark Tank to pitch their original app ideas to a panel of sharks from our staff. The students did an incredible job with their innovation, research, and clear pitches. It was very impressive! 🦈🦈🦈
