3D Design Computer Lab

At Wellford Academy, students attend a 3D design class as part of their related arts schedule. Each week, students use the engineering design process to solve problems. Questions lead investigations and help students reach solutions.

“Can I blow a bubble that’s shaped like a heart?”

“What shape makes a toy spin for the longest amount of time?”

“How can I modify a simple boat to hold more cargo?”

Projects have included catapults, cars, bubble wands, spinning toys, boats, chess pieces, and more.

We continue to be amazed at the level of creativity and innovation our students bring to the computer lab.  Take a look at some of the wonderful creations some of our engineering students have built.

Meet Mrs. Gillespie, 3D Design Computer Lab Teacher

After working as a graphic designer for several years, I became a teacher at Wellford Academy in 2003. Third grade is where I spent most of my time at the beginning of my career, but I’ve also been an interventionist and a fourth-grade teacher.  Within the walls of my 3D design lab, I get to witness various types of intelligence shine as children cooperate in the design process and tackle challenges.

My professional interests center around innovative teaching practices. I’m also interested in helping our school and students stand out as exemplary.  I’m fascinated with loose parts playgrounds and their benefits.

In my spare time, I enjoy all things food: cooking, eating, reading cookbooks, feeding people, and watching recipe videos. I also play tennis and love to solve crossword puzzles. Traveling to learn about new cultures and foods is also a passion of mine.
