🌊🏝️ Day 3 on Survivor Island 🏝️🌊
Mrs. Landon’s 8th grade science crew 💡🔬 faced the ultimate challenge — escaping the island! Using the remains of their shelters 🛖➡️🛶, they engineered creative floatation devices to brave the waters. 🚣♂️💪 Only the strongestsurvived the epic journey! 🏆🔥
👏 Amazing job, students, for being innovators 💭 and rocking the Engineering Design Process from start to finish! ⚙️✨

Students in Dr. Gray's math classes practiced working in groups to communicate their thinking to one another. The student that held the marker does not write their own thinking. It's not a race nor about the correct answer (although they usually end up there with peer checks), it's about thinking through a problem and celebrating when they get it wrong because learning is taking place. #whiteboardsessions

While using AVID’s “A-E-I-O-U Collaborative Norms,” Mrs. Edge’s English 1 Honors students have been participating in book clubs this week to discuss and analyze their summer reading! 📚💬

Mrs. Harper's students are AVID ready! They used the academic language scripts to agree and disagree with their classmates while playing "Would You Rather."

Students in Plonski's and Payne's class interviewed each other today over board games using AVID sentence stems and an interview sheet. What a fun way to get to know each other!

🌴🧪 Students in Mrs. Landon’s science class faced the ultimate challenge: Survivor Island! 🏝️💡
They had to 🛟 choose 30 of 40 passengers to save, then 🪵🏗️ build a shelter to protect them from the 🌪️ storm created by Mrs. Landon herself!
Will they survive Day 3? 🤔⏳ Time will tell… ⛺🌧️🔥

Interested in robotics? Come to the interest meeting for VEX IQ Robotics club next Thursday at 6:00 pm in room 400!

The chorus room has been filled with fun this week! Classes played “Solfege Keepy-Uppy” by singing a note in our scale each time the balloon was hit.
7th grade advanced choir students were challenged to keep a steady tempo while chanting and moving with a partner through different meter changes.

Students in Ms. Pierce's 7th grade ELA classes channeled their creativity through pipe cleaners. Today, each creation received a name and character trait. Tomorrow students will write a short story to go along with the pipe cleaner creations!

"🧪 Students in Mrs. Landon’s & Ms. Dewyea’s science classes 🔬 came together during FLEX time ⏳ to bond over board games 🎲♟️, laughter 😂, and a little friendly competition 🏆!"

Today Mrs. Fisher's classes played Class Rules Charades. While practicing their group rules and procedures, groups collaborated to write and perform a skit for one of the rules. The rest of the class had to guess which rule and whether it was a positive or negative example.

Our 6th grade math classes, dove into a fun and engaging activity called “Number Trouble”. This game not only sparked their enthusiasm for numbers, but also provided an excellent opportunity to enhance their collaboration skills!

We are so excited for our 2nd football season at Abner Creek Middle! Mark your calendars and bring your Pom Poms! Come cheer on the teams! 🐺

The 8th graders in Ms. Plonski and Ms. Payne's class wrote six word memoirs today. They worked in groups to practice the Class Reporting AVID sentence stems and determined which memoirs to share with the class.

Students in Mrs. Linkous' 6th grade social studies classes used hexagonal thinking to learn all about how they are each connected in some way! Now, they can use that strategy with new vocabulary too!

Today was National Baseball Fan Day so our Sunshine Committee went all out! The halls were full of favorite jerseys and hats and everyone was treated to an ice cream bar during lunch! Let's just say they hit it out of the park! ⚾️

Big shoutout to Ms.Dillingham and her class for such a creative and engaging way to review angles! By using their names, students are not only learning about different types of angles, but also personalizing their learning experience. Measuring and coloring angles found in letters is a fun method to visualize math concepts.

Mrs. Sturgis dropped her keys in Chemical X—our students suited up, got creative, and proved lab safety saves… and so do they. 🔑🧪

First Day Fun in Mrs. Bo’s ELA Class! 🍬📚
Students worked in pairs to tie Twizzlers using only one hand! It was a fun way to build teamwork, communication, and problem-solving skills. Great start to the year! 🎉
