In November of 2021, District Five voters approved a $295 million bond referendum to address growth and school capacity issues across District Five.  As a result of this growth plan, District Five will experience a major shift in the makeup of our district, beginning in the 2024-25 school year.  Namely, in 2024-25, District Five will open two brand new schools, and eliminate the intermediate school concept, with elementary schools housing Kindergarten-5th grade students, and middle schools housing 6th-8th grade students.

Because of this shift, attendance lines across District Five will change due to the opening of these new schools in 2024-25.

Again, these attendance lines will begin in the 2024-25 school year.  Until then, current attendance lines will remain in place. 

Many months of planning and consideration, on behalf of District Five administrators, as well as our Operations and Transportation departments, have gone into developing these proposed attendance lines.  Important factors included, but were not limited to:

• Enrollment capacity of current and future schools

• Potential growth in numerous areas across the district

• Traffic patterns and flow throughout the district

• Bus transportation

These lines lay out the attendance zones for District Five’s eight elementary schools, beginning in 2024-25:  Abner Creek Academy, Berry Shoals Elementary School, Duncan Elementary School of the Arts, Lyman Elementary School, Reidville Elementary School, River Ridge Elementary School, Tyger River Elementary School, and Wellford Academy.

All schools in District Five will be open for school choice for the 2024-25 school year.  The application window for school choice for the 2024-25 school year will be October 2 - November 21, 2023, and applications will be available on the district website.  Applications will be processed and families will be notified regarding the status of their request around the beginning of January.

District Five's attendance zones are based on a "feeder system" pattern.  These elementary schools will feed into the following middle schools:

• Abner Creek Middle School:  Abner Creek Academy and Reidville Elementary School

• Beech Springs Middle School:  Duncan Elementary School and Tyger River Elementary School

• D.R. Hill Middle School:  Lyman Elementary School and Wellford Academy

• Florence Chapel Middle School:  Berry Shoals Elementary School and River Ridge Elementary School
