One of Spartanburg District Five's outstanding educators is being honored at the state level! Brent Bernier, a teacher at D.R. Hill Middle School, has been recognized as the "Educator of the Month" for November by South Carolina State Treasurer Curtis Loftis. The recognition is part of South Carolina's Financial Literacy Master Teacher Program.
Bernier is a Career Exploration teacher at D.R. Hill, where he has taught for 23 years. As part of his class, he talks with students about everything from creating a budget and paying a mortgage, to investing in the stock market. "The earlier we introduce our students to these concepts, the more they will retain as they move forward in their lives and the earlier they can put this knowledge to real use for themselves," Bernier says.
"Mr Bernier's students are fortunate to have a teacher who develops engaging lessons to teach this vital information," says Treasurer Loftis. "We are pleased to recognize him this month for his ongoing efforts."
The South Carolina Financial Literacy Master Teacher Program provides incentives for K-12 teachers who are experts in the area of financial literacy and have a desire to teach professional development workshops to other educators in their schools and districts.
